Real simple… stop any illegal drug use because most companies test for it. I don’t know how long before certain drugs are out of your body, but the day you start your search stop. Hey, it’s not healthy for you anyway and you might not know that your search is starting tomorrow because of an unforeseen layoff!

Also, at this beginning stage of your search go on Google and put your name in to make sure there is nothing disparaging about you on the internet. Now is the time to take off any pictures from your “glory years” that may be deemed unprofessional to a potential employer. It may be “modern times,” but still play it more conservative to be safe. People lose jobs over this and the sad thing is they don’t even know why, but it’s because someone checked you out on the net.
